Shortcrust Pasty - sweet

 

Ingredients

  • 175g plain flour
  • 25g icing sugar
  • 100g cold cubed butter
  • the yolk of 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp of cold water

 Method 

  1. Weigh out the flour and icing sugar into a mixing bowl and mix well
  2.  Add the butter and mix to form a breadcrumbs like consistency
  3. Add the yolk of the egg
  4. Add the water and mix at low speed until combined.
  5. If makeing a tart or sweet flan, grease the baking tray and ring.
  6. Roll out the pastry and ease into the ring.
  7. Place in a refrigerator for 20 minutes
  8. Prick the base with a fork, cover with foil and beans.  No need to trim.
  9. Bake blind at 180C for 10 mins.
  10. Remove the foil and the beans and return the pastry to the oven for a further 10 minutes.
